Music | Dej Loaf “All Jokes Aside” mixtape

Since announcing her mainstream presence via the DDS-produced single “Try Me,” petite Detroit rapper Dej Loaf hasn’t slowed down. Today she dropped a second mixtape titled All Jokes Aside, a respectable follow up to her first effort, Sell Sole, which was released in 2014.

Where Sell Sole saw features from the likes of Young Thug, Birdman, Remy Ma and Ty Dolla $ign, All Jokes Aside is all about Dej, with the exception of a cameo from a blast from the No Limits era, Silkk the Shocker. And while we may have gotten used to synth-powered, sing-song vocals from lil’ Dej, this mixtape is a little different.

She describes it best on the track “Chase Mine,” stating, “Lately I’ve been on my rap shit / Had to stop singing for awhile.”

Music | Black Friday Mixtape Selection

As the retail world sent bargain savers and Christmas shoppers into a frenzy on Black Friday, November 27th, the hip hop fraternity of artists used this day, as the give back date to their fans by dropping multiple mix tapes for you to stream, and download for free via DatPiff.com. Some of the mixtapes I downloaded included

Chris Brown – Before the Party

Fabolous – Summertime Shootout

Rick Ross – Renzel Remixes

Lil Wayne – No Ceilings 2

Chris_Brown_Before_The_Party

Today is Cyber Monday, so it’s been a non-stop back to back listening fest with these 4 mixtapes, and I can say not one of them disappointed me. Chris Brown certainly leads the track numbers on his mix tape with 34 tracks, which in my opinion could have been split into 2 albums. Some of the features on his mixtape “Before the Party” include Rihanna, Fetty Wap, French Montana, Wiz Khalifa, and his homeboy Tyga as well. If you’re a true Chris Brown fan, and a lover of R&B, this is one for you.

Lil_Wayne_No_Ceilings_2

Between the other 3 mixtapes, well, we waited for Lil Wayne to drop “No Ceilings 2”, and in true Young Money quality control, Weezy F doesn’t disappoint, with various original tracks, and freesyles with his version of Hotline Bling aka Jail Phone.

Fabolous_Summertime_Shootout

Fabolous, what can I say, he is a beast, who has kept to his flow and formula, which is why I am true fan of his. “Summertime Shootout” I feel, should have been released in the summer, it’s one of those mixtapes, you have to bump loudly, with various flavours of tracks, including the upcoming club banger “The Plug”, and his version of Hotline Bling aka Trapline Bling.

Rick_Ross-Renzel_Remixes

I’ll wrap up with the biggest boss, Rick Ross’s “Renzel Remixes”. He has been delivering various freestyle remixes over the past few months, his biggest freestyle remix has to be of Adele’s “Hello”, if you haven’t yet listened to it, simply download his mixtape and put it on blast. This mixtape is 26 tracks, and is covered over 2 discs, so be sure to grab both downloads. All in all, I’ve enjoyed listening to all 4 mixtapes and will continue to for a while to come. I have to salute the other artists that dropped mixtapes on Black Friday, be sure to log onto Datpiff.com to see them all and download.

Music | Drake “If You’re Reading This, it’s Too Late”

Shout to Drake for breaking the internet straight after Kanye’s Adidas launch, not many celebs, or artists would be able to that without dropping some “leaked” nudes. But the talent that is Canada’s top export Drake did what most artists in the lifetime could never do, drop a “mixtape” via iTunes, on Friday 13th and create a buzz that required no marketing budget at all, simples, Drake’s legion of loyal fans spread the word by reposting the mixtape cover on all forms of social media, which saw the mixtape end up in the iTunes top 10 by lunchtime here in the UK.
16 tracks with 1 interlude is what you be getting for your £11.99. Fair to say from the start, it’s certainly a OVO production, with the beats sounding very unique to that OVO flow, add Drake’s lyrics and vocals over them, and this is a mixtape that will not be deleted from your iPhone for a long time. The mixtape includes  some previously heard tracks such as 6 God & Used To feat Lil Wayne. Featured artists in this mixtape also include PARTYNEXTDOOR &  Travis Scott.
drake
Tracks such as Madonna, Energy, Preach, 6 Man, You & the 6, and Know Yourself is a BANGER, love the switch it up style Drake has mastered. are certainly stand out tracks for me, but that is not to say that other tracks get skipped, because they don’t. So the question that everyone has asked me..”is it worth the money?” I’d say yes, especially if your not trying to listen to the same old with every album in your iPhone, this certainly delivers a diversity in sound and creativity that seems to only come to life with such artists as Drake, Kanye, Jay Z, Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lemar, you seeing the pattern here.

Music | Meek Mill "Dream Chasers 3"

True to creative form, Maybach Music Group artist Meek Mill has released his third volume in his Dream Chasers mixtape series via Datpiff (free download). I was very reserved about this mixtape, due to the massive disappointment of Self Made 3, so I expected more of the same, which isn’t good. To my great surprise and enjoyment Meek Mill has once again delivered a mixtape that should and could succeed as a iTunes purchasable album.
Dj Drama once again is the host for the mixtape, and once again the main club bangers in this mixtape has Dj Drama talking all over the tracks and dropping his samples, so for many club goers you won’t be hearing any professional DJ playing these in the clubs, which I feel is bad promo when they can become hits like House Party from Dream Chasers 1.
The mixtape has features which include Nicki Minaj, O Melly, Travis Scott, Birdman, Puffy, Yo Gotti, French Montana,  and of course the MMG Boss and Meek’s mentor Rick Ross is on there as well. The tracks that I feel are the heavy hitters and stand out over the rest are Lil Snupe, Meek’s tribute to his artist who was fatally killed before he made it stardom. On the mixtape you can hear the hunger and natural lyrical talent of Lil Snupe, it’s a shame and lost for the hip hop industry, he could have been a great artist. The other track that has been on replay is Heaven or Hell featuring Jadakiss & Gourdo Banks.
Meek Mill didn’t spare any expense on the producers, which included Boi-1, Super CED, The Mechanics and top producers Scott Scorch. This tells you the levels Meek Mill has pulled together for Dream Chasers 3, and yes it’s worth the Free download from Datpiff, you won’t be disappointed.
Conclusion – Meek Mill has once again delivered a timeless mixtape, and I look forward to his next release.
